Issue: Non-Wushu Organisations
I and others are concerned how, in violation of IWUF’s own Constitution, national organisations of other sports (karate, kickboxing and some other sports) are granted membership in the IWUF.
This is a significant issue when taking into consideration that this means the absence of recognition of Wushu organisations in their respective countries. I am advised that in some cases this has been going on for more than 24 years, since the creation of the IWUF.
It is also mentioned in Article 29 of the Olympic Charter that the activity of the National Federation must be specific, which means in the case of the IWUF, Wushu (and not any other sport) activity.
Having the names of non-Wushu organisations listed as part of IWUF's membership, must create confusion in the minds of IOC members as to the composition of IWUF as an International Federation.
We believe that it is important for the integrity of Wushu, that matters of this nature should be of concern to the President of IWUF and priority given to ensure we have transparent and credible membership processes in place.
